Nancy Snyder

I’m a literacy specialist/coach and language coordinator at International School Ho Chi Minh City.  My role includes supporting students and teachers in integrating literacy in their learning, using language to learn and learning about language. Often, I help teachers see where students might need support or stretching to best learn language.  I also work with curriculum coordinators and teaching teams to insure use of reading, writing, speaking, listening, viewing and presenting in all units of inquiry.

I have experience teaching and living in several countries as both a classroom teacher and reading/literacy specialist.  I have a BS and Med in education and have been teaching since 1997.  I also participated in a one year leadership course through Cognita Asia where I implemented a mentoring and coaching approach amongst teachers at our school. I consider myself a learner and student as well as a teacher. My twitter handle is @nancysnyder0218.  I try to notice learning and thinking as they happen.

I work with teachers in my school and area schools on planning, professional development, coaching and mentoring.  Some areas I have facilitated professional development are:  Writing Practices and Curriculum, Early Literacy, Balanced Literacy Approach, Guided Reading, Speaking and Listening Planning, Running a Readers’ Workshop, and Beyond Leveled Reading.
